    Why do Switch OLED rails fail? +

    The most common cause is pin wear from sliding Joy-Cons in and out daily. The 11 contact pins are thin and bend under repeated use.

    Liquid, drops, and pocket dust can also damage the ribbon cable. They can block the contact pins too. A visually clean rail may still have bent or oxidised pins internally.

    Are the Left and Right rails the same part? +

    No — they are different. The Left rail has a longer flex cable. It reaches the ZIF socket on the motherboard. The Right rail has a shorter cable with a more direct path.

    This kit includes one of each. Both are needed to restore full Joy-Con function on both sides.

    Will this fit my standard Nintendo Switch? +

    No. This rail is only for the Nintendo Switch OLED (HEG-001). It does not fit the standard Switch (HAC-001). It also does not fit the Switch Lite (HDH-001).

    Check the back of your console for the model number before placing an order.

    Does this repair require soldering? +

    No soldering of any kind is required. The rails screw into the console frame with standard screws. The ZIF cable slides into its socket and locks down. No soldering is needed at this step.

    The job does require care with the ZIF connector. Use a spudger and ESD tweezers when disconnecting and reconnecting the ribbon.

    What tools do I need? +

    You will need a Y00 Tri-point (Y1.5) screwdriver for the outer case screws. A JIS000 is the correct choice for internal rail screws. The Switch OLED uses JIS screws, not standard Phillips.

    You also need plastic opening picks, a nylon spudger, and ESD tweezers. A magnetic screw mat helps track the many tiny screws.

    How hard is this repair to do? +

    iFixit rates this repair as Moderate difficulty. Estimated time is 30 to 60 minutes. The main risks are stripping the small JIS screws and tearing the ZIF ribbon cable.
