Symptoms This Sensor Rail Fixes
A worn or damaged console sensor rail is the most common cause of these Switch faults:
Console shows controller as missing even when slid on.
Battery stays flat even when attached to a powered console.
Joy-Con slides on but rattles in handheld mode.
Controller drops out under movement or bumps.
Latch fails so Joy-Con slides off freely.
SL or SR shoulder buttons not registering through the rail.
Diagnose Before You Order
Confirm the fault is the console rail, not the Joy-Con itself. Two-minute swap test:
- Slide a known-good Joy-Con of the same side onto the faulty rail.
- If the good Joy-Con also fails, the console rail is the cause. Order this part.
- If the good Joy-Con works fine, the fault sits inside the original Joy-Con.
- Test both left and right separately. They are independent rails on different flex cables.
