Is Your Xbox One Drive Failing? Common Symptoms
If your original Xbox One shows any of these signs, the disc drive has failed and a Lite-On DG-6M1S replacement will fix it.
Disc inserted, console can hear it spinning, but the screen still says "Place a disc". The laser has failed to read the data layer.
Loud grinding, clicking or rattling from the drive bay. The spindle motor or sled motor has worn out — full assembly swap fixes it.
Press eject, nothing happens. Or the tray opens but won't close. The eject mechanism inside the drive has stopped responding.
A game disc is trapped and won't eject even with the manual eject hole trick. The drive's eject motor is jammed or fully dead.
Game loads forever, then freezes. The laser is barely reading the disc and giving up halfway. A new drive restores normal load times.
Reads CDs but not Blu-Rays. Or reads old games but not new dual-layer discs. The laser is on its last legs — replace before it fully dies.
CRITICAL — Xbox One Drive PCB is Married to Your Console
You cannot just swap the whole drive in. The PCB on the bottom of every Xbox One disc drive is cryptographically paired to your specific console. Read this before you start.
The PCB (drive logic board) holds a unique key that's matched to your Xbox One's southbridge chip. The mechanical drive itself (laser, motors, tray) is generic — only the PCB is married.
Take the original PCB off your old failed drive and fit it onto the new DG-6M1S replacement. Same screws, same ribbon connector — about a 5-minute swap on the bench.
Drop in a new drive with its own PCB and the console will refuse to read any disc. The marriage check fails. Game discs, DVDs and Blu-Rays all show "Place a disc" forever.
If your old drive's PCB is dead (water damage, bad caps, fried trace) the marriage key is gone. At that point you'll need a re-pair service or a console-specific solution — book a repair with us.
Easier path: Walk in to our Forest Lake counter. Drop the console with us, our techs handle the PCB transfer, fit the new drive and test every disc format before you take it home.
What You Get
A complete replacement Lite-On DG-6M1S Blu-Ray drive assembly ready to drop into the original Xbox One. PCB-swap your old drive's logic board onto this one to maintain the console marriage.
Full mechanical assembly — laser pickup, spindle motor, sled motor, tray, eject mechanism and chassis. New PCB included as standard.
Each drive is tested on our workshop Xbox One before dispatch — laser confirmed reading, motors confirmed turning, tray confirmed cycling.
Sealed in an ESD-safe pouch and foam-padded box. The optical pickup is delicate — packaging keeps it safe through Australia Post.
Vendor-confirmed 12-month warranty on the drive mechanism. Covers laser failure, motor failure and eject failure under normal use.
Note: Console teardown tools (T8, T10 Torx drivers, plastic prying tools) are not included. Pair with a basic console repair kit — or book the workshop install.

Installation Overview — With Mandatory PCB Transfer
Mid-to-advanced repair. Console must be opened and the drive's logic board transferred. Allow about an hour with proper tools and a clean workspace.
Unplug everything. Remove the side vent, top cover and inner shielding using T8 and T10 Torx drivers. Take photos as you go.
Disconnect the SATA data and power cables. Free the drive from its bracket. Set the failed drive aside on the bench.
Unscrew the PCB from the bottom of the OLD drive. Lift it off the ribbon. Fit it onto the NEW DG-6M1S drive in the same orientation. Reseat the ribbon.
Slot the new drive into the console bracket. Reconnect the SATA data and power cables. Confirm both clicks are firm.
Plug in HDMI and power. Insert a known-good Blu-Ray and a known-good Xbox game disc. Confirm both read and play before reassembling.
Refit the inner shielding, top cover and side vent. Replace every Torx screw. Job done — back to gaming.
Highly recommended: Have a professional handle the console teardown and PCB transfer. The ribbon connector is fragile and the drive PCB is small. Walk-in service available at our Forest Lake counter.
