โš ๏ธ READ FIRST โ€” Try The Free Fixes Before Opening The Phone

Many proximity faults on the iPhone 14 are not actually hardware. Before ordering this part and starting a display-removal repair, work through the three free checks below. If the fault persists, the sensor flex has failed โ€” and that's where this PULL-A flex comes in.

โœ… Step 1 โ€” Remove The Screen Protector

A protector that covers or extends near the notch is the leading cause of proximity failure on the iPhone 14. Remove it completely, clean the area, then test with a real call.

    โœ… Step 2 โ€” Reset All Settings

Settings โ†’ General โ†’ Transfer or Reset iPhone โ†’ Reset โ†’ Reset All Settings. Resets software without deleting data. Resolves software-caused proximity faults in around one in five cases.

๐Ÿ“ท Step 3 โ€” Face ID Transfer Required

If you replace the flex, the TrueDepth camera, IR camera and dot projector sit on your original flex. They must be transferred to the new flex carefully โ€” damage during transfer will permanently disable Face ID.

Professional installation strongly recommended. JPC Mobile installs at Shop 3A, 152 Woogaroo St, Forest Lake QLD 4078 โ€” call 0480 039 913.

    ๐Ÿ“ฑ Compatibility โ€” iPhone 14 (6.1-inch) Only

    โœ… A2882 โ€” AU / Global

The Australian-market iPhone 14 model number. Same as most international markets including UK, EU, India and Singapore.

    โœ… A2649 โ€” United States

US iPhone 14 โ€” eSIM-only variant from launch. Same proximity sensor flex as the global model.

    โœ… A2881 โ€” China / HK / Macao

Mainland China, Hong Kong and Macao iPhone 14. Dual physical SIM. Same sensor flex as global.

    โœ… A2884 โ€” Japan

Japanese iPhone 14 โ€” includes mandatory shutter sound for the camera. Same sensor flex.

Verify your model: Settings โ†’ General โ†’ About โ†’ Model Number. Australian iPhone 14 almost always shows A2882.

โŒ DOES NOT FIT โ€” Read Before Ordering

This sensor flex is engineered for the standard iPhone 14 (6.1-inch notch display) only. It does not fit any other iPhone โ€” including its own siblings in the iPhone 14 line. Confirm your model before ordering.

โŒ Other iPhone 14 Series Models

    iPhone 14 Plus โ€” 6.7-inch, A2886 / A2632, different flex layout

iPhone 14 Pro โ€” 6.1-inch BUT Dynamic Island, A2890 / A2650, completely different sensor architecture

    iPhone 14 Pro Max โ€” 6.7-inch Dynamic Island, A2894 / A2651

    โŒ Earlier Standard iPhones

iPhone 13 โ€” different flex routing, different connector position

    iPhone 12 / 12 mini โ€” different sensor assembly

iPhone 11 โ€” pre-Face ID notch generation flex

iPhone XR ยท XS โ€” entirely different sensor architecture

    โŒ Other Apple Devices

iPhone SE (any generation) โ€” Touch ID, no Face ID, different sensor stack

    iPhone 15 / 16 / 16e standard โ€” different flex revisions

iPad ยท Apple Watch โ€” different sensor assembly entirely

iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max use a completely different Dynamic Island sensor architecture โ€” they will NOT accept this part. Confirm your model number before ordering โ€” call 0480 039 913 with your A-number for confirmation.

๐Ÿ”ง What This Flex Cable Assembly Contains

The iPhone 14 integrates multiple sensor and audio functions into a single flex cable mounted in the notch area. Here is what this PULL-A OEM replacement covers.

    ๐Ÿ“ก

    Proximity Sensor

Detects when the phone is held near the ear and turns the display off during calls โ€” preventing cheek-dialling, accidental mute and accidental hang-up. Sits in the notch flex.

    โ˜€๏ธ

    Ambient Light Sensor (ALS)

Measures surrounding light levels and adjusts screen brightness automatically. When this fails, Auto-Brightness can stop responding entirely or the toggle can disappear from Settings.

    ๐ŸŽ™๏ธ

    Front Mic + Earpiece Contacts

Earpiece speaker contact pads and front microphone connector are integrated. Damage here affects call audio, voice clarity and FaceTime audio quality.

โš ๏ธ Face ID components (TrueDepth camera, IR camera, dot projector) sit on the original flex. They are NOT included in this replacement โ€” they must be transferred carefully from your original flex to the new one during installation, otherwise Face ID will be lost.

๐Ÿ”ฉ What PULL-A Grade Means For This Part

Part grade directly affects reliability after installation. Proximity and ambient light sensors are particularly sensitive to component quality โ€” here's exactly what you're getting.

    ๐Ÿ† PULL-A โ€” What You're Getting

Original Apple component removed from a working or lightly-used iPhone 14. Tested for full functionality before removal. Minimal wear. Same sensor that left the Apple factory โ€” not a replica.

    ๐Ÿ“ฆ Aftermarket / "OEM Copy"

Made to Apple's dimensions but by a third party. Calibration issues are common โ€” slow proximity response, inaccurate ambient light reading, cheek-dialling that returns weeks after install. Not what this listing sells.

    โš ๏ธ PULL-B / Refurbished

Pulled from damaged devices or tested with lower standards. Higher failure risk. Given the display-removal effort needed to fit this part, anything less than PULL-A increases the chance of repeat surgery.

This listing: PULL-A OEM โ€” original Apple proximity + ambient light sensor flex assembly โ€” pulled from a working iPhone 14, pre-tested, and backed by a 12-month warranty.

๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Faults This Part Fixes โ€” Know Yours Before Ordering

Match your symptom to the cards below. Always rule out screen protector and software causes first.

๐Ÿ“ž Screen Stays On During Calls (Cheek Dialling)

The most common symptom. Proximity sensor has failed to detect the ear, so the screen stays live during a call. The cheek then triggers buttons โ€” muting, hanging up, or dialling contacts.

โšก Check first: screen protector covering the notch is the leading cause.

๐Ÿ–ค Screen Stays Black After Calls

The opposite fault โ€” sensor stays in the triggered state after the call ends. The phone thinks it is still held to the ear. Power button wakes it, but it recurs every call.

    ๐ŸŒ“ Auto-Brightness Not Responding

Screen brightness fixed regardless of environment. Ambient light sensor has failed. In some cases the Auto-Brightness toggle disappears from Settings โ†’ Accessibility entirely.

โšก Check first: toggle Auto-Brightness off, reboot, back on. If toggle is missing, hardware likely needed.

๐ŸŽ™๏ธ Earpiece / Front Mic Issues

Quiet earpiece, dead earpiece, or muffled / one-sided FaceTime audio. The earpiece contact pads and front mic connector live on this same flex assembly โ€” replacement restores both.

    โ“ Frequently Asked Questions

Will replacing this flex cable disable Face ID? +

Not automatically โ€” but only if the Face ID components are transferred carefully. The TrueDepth camera, IR camera and dot projector sit on the original flex and must be moved over to the replacement.

If those components are transferred undamaged, Face ID continues to work. If damaged during removal, Face ID will be lost permanently and cannot be restored without an Apple-paired replacement.

This is an intermediate-to-advanced repair โ€” professional installation strongly recommended unless you have done it before.

My screen stays on during calls โ€” should I order this part straight away? +

No โ€” try the free fixes first. A screen protector that overlaps the notch is the #1 cause of proximity failure on the iPhone 14. Remove it completely and test with a real call before ordering anything.

If there is no screen protector issue, go to Settings โ†’ General โ†’ Transfer or Reset โ†’ Reset All Settings. This resets software without deleting data and resolves software-caused proximity faults in around one in five cases.

Order this part only if the fault persists after both steps. Avoids unnecessary surgery on the device.

What is PULL-A grade and how is it different to aftermarket? +

PULL-A means the component was removed from a working iPhone 14 and tested for full functionality before removal. It is an original Apple part โ€” not a third-party replica.

Aftermarket proximity sensors are made by third-party manufacturers to Apple's dimensions. Calibration issues are common โ€” slow proximity response, inaccurate ambient light reading, cheek-dialling that returns weeks after install.

For a repair that requires display removal, PULL-A OEM grade is worth it โ€” it reduces the chance of repeat surgery.

The auto-brightness toggle has disappeared from my Settings โ€” is this the sensor? +

Yes โ€” when the ambient light sensor fails completely, iOS removes the Auto-Brightness toggle from Settings โ†’ Accessibility โ†’ Display & Text Size because it detects there is no working sensor to control.

First try: Settings โ†’ General โ†’ Reset โ†’ Reset All Settings. This has resolved the missing toggle for some users without requiring hardware replacement.

If the toggle remains missing after a reset and a reboot, the ambient light sensor in this flex assembly has hardware-failed and needs replacement.

Will this fit the iPhone 14 Pro, 14 Plus or iPhone 13? +

No. This flex is specific to the standard iPhone 14 (6.1-inch with traditional notch). The iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max use the Dynamic Island sensor architecture โ€” completely different assembly.

The iPhone 14 Plus is 6.7-inch with a different flex layout. The iPhone 13 uses different flex routing and connector position even though it shares the notch design โ€” the parts are not interchangeable.

    Check your model: Settings โ†’ General โ†’ About โ†’ Model Number. iPhone 14 shows A2882, A2649, A2881 or A2884.

    Does this fit US-market (eSIM-only) and Chinese (dual-SIM) iPhone 14? +

Yes. The proximity / ambient light flex is identical across all four iPhone 14 regional variants โ€” A2882 (AU / global), A2649 (US eSIM-only), A2881 (mainland China / HK / Macao dual-SIM) and A2884 (Japan).

Apple varies the SIM card hardware, modem certification and band support between regions, but the proximity sensor architecture is shared. This single PULL-A part covers all four regional models.

What tools are needed for this repair? +

Pentalobe screwdrivers (bottom screws), Phillips precision screwdrivers, plastic spudgers, fine-point tweezers, a heat gun or hair dryer to soften display adhesive and a suction cup or opening pick set.

A magnetic screw mat is essential โ€” the iPhone 14 uses very small screws and losing one is a common issue for less-experienced technicians.

JPC Mobile stocks professional iPhone repair tool kits โ€” visit the repair tools collection or ask in store at Shop 3A, Forest Lake QLD.

Does this part come with a warranty? +

Yes โ€” this PULL-A OEM sensor flex cable comes with a 12-month warranty covering the part itself.

The warranty applies to the component as supplied. It does not cover damage caused during installation. Australian Consumer Law protections also apply to all purchases from JPC Mobile.

If the part arrives damaged or not as described, contact us at 0480 039 913 or visit Shop 3A, Forest Lake QLD.

Is there a quick diagnostic I can do before ordering? +

Yes. For ambient light: open the iPhone Camera app in the dark and hold a torch near the notch. The screen should brighten as the ambient light sensor detects the additional light. If it doesn't, the sensor is likely failed.

For proximity: open the Phone app, call any number and hold the phone to your ear. The screen should turn off within one to two seconds. If it stays on, the proximity sensor is either blocked or failed.

Always remove the screen protector and perform a software reset before concluding the fault is hardware.

How long does this repair take? +

For an experienced technician: 45โ€“90 minutes. The time is split between display removal, careful Face ID component transfer to the new flex, and reassembly with fresh display adhesive.

The heat process for adhesive softening alone takes 5โ€“10 minutes. Rushing this step is the most common cause of cracked OLED panels during sensor repairs.

Post-repair verification โ€” testing proximity, auto-brightness, earpiece audio, microphone and Face ID โ€” adds another 10 minutes to confirm all functions are restored.
