๐ง After-Install Calibration โ Get Battery Health Working
Follow these steps in order. Skipping a step is the #1 reason customers think a Diagnosable battery "isn't working" โ it usually just needs the right pairing sequence.
STEP 1 โ Connect to WiFi
Apple's Repair Assistant requires a stable WiFi connection. Cellular data alone will not complete the pairing.
STEP 2 โ Charge to 100%
Charge the new battery to 100% on a Lightning cable then run a full discharge to ~5%. Repeat once. This establishes the cell's voltage curve in iOS.
STEP 3 โ Open Repair Assistant
Settings โ General โ About โ Battery โ "Repair Assistant" or "Battery Service". Follow on-screen prompts to pair.
STEP 4 โ Re-run if it fails
First attempt sometimes times out. Wait 60 seconds. Re-run the test 1โ2 more times without removing the battery. It usually passes on attempt 2 or 3.
STEP 5 โ Wait if you also swapped the screen
Apple's backend confuses simultaneous screen + battery swaps. Wait roughly 30 days for the screen to be recognised, then re-run battery diagnostics. The battery still works normally during this period.
STEP 6 โ Check Battery Health screen
After 2โ3 charge cycles, Maximum Capacity and Cycle Count populate. Initial reading may show 95โ99% โ this is normal and recalibrates upward over time.
โ ๏ธ Honest limitation: If non-genuine parts (screen, camera, Face ID, vibration motor) were previously installed, Apple's Repair Assistant may refuse to complete pairing. The battery still functions normally โ only the diagnostic-pairing step is affected.

What does "Diagnosable" actually mean?+
Diagnosable means the battery's internal Battery Management System (BMS) chip is re-programmed to communicate correctly with iOS. iOS continues to display Maximum Capacity, cycle count and charge stats normally, and Apple's Repair Assistant pairing process can complete. Standard aftermarket cells fail this โ they trigger a permanent "Unknown Part" warning and disable the Battery Health screen.
Will Battery Health show 100% on day one?+
Initial Maximum Capacity often reads 95โ99% straight after install. This is a known iOS behaviour, not a battery fault. After 2โ3 full charge cycles, iOS recalibrates upward and Maximum Capacity typically settles at 100%. Cycle count begins tracking from 0 from that point.
Will I see a "battery is not genuine" warning?+
Honest answer: yes, on first install you may see a one-time iOS notification stating Apple cannot verify the battery as genuine. This is iOS detecting that the cell is non-Apple-original โ true of every aftermarket battery, including Diagnosable ones. The key difference is that with Diagnosable, the Battery Health screen continues to function normally after that notice. Standard cells lose Battery Health forever.

Yes โ pre-fitted iPhone 12 Pro Max specific adhesive strips ship attached to the battery cell. No need to buy separate adhesive. Just clean the housing, peel the backing, position the cell and press for 30 seconds.
I just replaced my screen too โ will diagnostics fail?+
Possibly, on the first attempt. Apple's backend cannot reliably distinguish two simultaneous part swaps. The Repair Assistant may show either screen or battery as failing. Wait roughly 30 days for Apple's system to register the new screen, then re-run battery diagnostics. The battery still works normally during this period โ only the diagnostic-pairing display is affected.
Repair Assistant failed first time โ is the battery faulty?+
Almost certainly not. First-attempt failures are common, even with Apple-original batteries. Confirm strong WiFi (cellular alone won't work), wait 60 seconds, then re-run the diagnostic 1โ2 more times without removing the battery. It usually passes on attempt 2 or 3.
Can I install this myself?+
Possible โ iPhone 12 Pro Max is an intermediate-skill repair. You'll need a pentalobe screwdriver (bottom screws), Tri-point Y000 (battery connector bracket), suction handle, opening picks, plastic spudger and tweezers. Disconnect the battery first to prevent shorts. Remove the Face ID flex with care. What does the 12-month warranty cover?+
The Greencell vendor warranty covers manufacturing defects for 12 months from purchase โ premature capacity loss (below 80% within 12 months), cell failure, BMS chip failure and swelling not caused by physical damage.
