Frequently Asked Questions
What is a BQ7 Incell LCD?
BQ7 is a grade name for aftermarket screens. It means high production standards. This screen uses LTPS LCD technology. The touch layer is built into the display. This makes it thinner and more responsive. The BQ7 has great specs for the price. It has 625 nits brightness. Contrast ratio is 1400:1. It has reserved IC pads for chip transfer. When chips are moved right, True Tone works. You get good quality for less money.
What is IC chip transfer?
IC chip transfer means moving tiny chips. These chips come from your old screen. They store data that iOS uses. One chip controls True Tone. Another handles touch calibration. If you skip the transfer, True Tone won't work. Settings may show a warning about the screen. The display still works fine without chips. IC transfer needs a hot air station. It needs soldering skills. The chips are very small. We recommend pro installation.
Will True Tone work with this screen?
Yes, but only with IC chip transfer. This screen has reserved OEM IC pads. That means it supports True Tone. A tech must move the chips from your old screen. If done right, True Tone works normally. No iOS warning will appear. Without chip transfer, True Tone stays off. Settings shows a display message. The screen still works perfectly. Colours look great. Touch is smooth. For full features, get IC transfer done.
Is this OLED or LCD?
This is an LCD screen, not OLED. The original iPhone XS used OLED. This BQ7 uses LTPS LCD technology. LCD costs less than OLED. It still looks great. Brightness is 625 nits. Contrast is 1400:1. Colours are vivid and accurate. The main difference is black levels. OLED has true blacks. LCD has very dark greys. For most users, it's hard to tell. LCD is a budget-friendly option.
Can I install this screen myself?
The screen swap is doable for DIY repairers. You need the right screwdrivers. You need pry tools too. But IC transfer is the hard part. It needs a hot air station. It needs soldering skills. The chips are tiny. One mistake ruins them. If chips are damaged, True Tone is gone. We suggest doing the screen swap yourself. Then take it to a pro for IC transfer. Or let us do the whole job.
What parts do I move from the old screen?
You need to move several parts. First, the IC chips for True Tone. This needs micro-soldering. Second, the earpiece speaker. It sits at the top of the screen. Third, the proximity sensor. Fourth, the ambient light sensor. These parts clip in with screws. Take photos as you go. Keep track of all small screws. The front camera and Face ID stay with the phone. Work carefully with flex cables. They tear easily.
Will Face ID still work?
Yes, Face ID keeps working. Face ID uses the front camera module. That part stays attached to the phone frame. It does not move to the new screen. You just swap the display panel. The earpiece and sensors transfer over. But Face ID hardware stays in place. Be careful during the repair. Don't damage the Face ID flex cable. If that breaks, Face ID stops working. Apple is the only one who can fix it.
What does the warranty cover?
Our warranty covers defects in the screen. If the LCD fails, we replace it. If it shows dead pixels, we replace it. If touch stops without damage, we cover it. Warranty does not cover drops or cracks. Water damage is not covered. Bad installation is not covered. IC chip damage is not covered. Keep your receipt as proof. Test the screen before full install. Returns are not accepted after IC transfer.
Why test before full installation?
Always test the screen before moving IC chips. Plug it in without sticking it down. Check that the display turns on. Check all touch areas work. Look for dead pixels or lines. If something is wrong, we can replace it. But once IC chips are soldered on, no returns. The chips belong to your phone. Testing takes just a few minutes. It protects you from rare defects.
How does BQ7 compare to original Apple?
BQ7 is aftermarket, not OEM Apple. But it's high quality for the price. Apple uses OLED. BQ7 uses LTPS LCD. LCD is more affordable. Brightness is 625 nits. Touch feels smooth. The main difference is deep blacks. OLED has perfect blacks. LCD has very dark greys. Most people won't notice in daily use. BQ7 needs IC chip transfer for True Tone. You save money compared to Apple repairs.
What is COF flex design?
COF stands for Chip On Flex. It describes where the driver chips are placed. COF puts chips on a flexible cable. This allows thinner bezels at the bottom. It matches the original iPhone XS design. The flex is more delicate though. Handle it carefully during install. Don't bend the flex cable sharply. Once fitted, it works like original. COF gives a cleaner look than older designs.
