    Before You Order ā€” Quick Triage Check

    A faulty I/O board is the most common port issue. Confirm it is the board and not the cable, brick or logic board.

    1. Try a known-good USB-C cable

    Borrow another working USB-C charge cable.

    2. Try a different USB-C charger

    Use a 30W or higher Apple-spec brick.

    3. Test both ports

    If only one side fails, that I/O board is the fault.

    4. Reset the SMC

    Apple Silicon resets via a full shutdown and 30-second wait.

    5. Inspect the port

    Look for bent pins, burn marks or debris.

    6. Check System Report

    Thunderbolt section shows the bus only when a port works.

    Installation ā€” Pro Repair Recommended

    āš ļø Disconnect the battery before any other connector. A live logic board will short the new I/O board.

    Step 1 ā€” Power Off

    Shut down. Unplug the charger.

    Step 2 ā€” Open the Bottom Case

    Use a P5 pentalobe driver for the case screws.

    Step 3 ā€” Disconnect the Battery

    Lift the battery flex from the logic board first.

    Step 4 ā€” Release the I/O Flex

    Pop the connector and remove the board screws.

    Step 5 ā€” Fit the New Board

    Seat into the chassis. Re-fit the screws by hand first.

    Step 6 ā€” Test Before Closing

    Reconnect battery. Plug in charger. Confirm port works.

    Will this fit my MacBook Air?+
    It fits the 13-inch MacBook Air Retina with model number A1932 (2018/2019), A2179 (2020 Intel) or A2337 (2020 M1). Click the Apple menu and choose About This Mac to confirm yours.
    Will it fit a MacBook Air M2 or M3?+
    No. The M2 Air (A2681) uses a MagSafe 3 DC-IN board. The M3 Air (A3113) uses a different revision again. This 821-01658 part is for A1932, A2179 and A2337 only.
    Does it fit the left or right side?+
    Both. The same part number 821-01658 is used for either I/O position on these MacBook Air models. The board mirrors automatically based on which side it is fitted to.
    What does PULL-A grade mean?+
    PULL-A is the top grade of pulled parts. It is a genuine Apple board removed from a working MacBook Air unit. Electrical performance matches new.
    Will it restore Thunderbolt 3 speeds?+
    Yes. The board carries the full Thunderbolt 3 controller. SSDs, docks and external GPUs run at up to 40Gbps once installed.
    How do I know the I/O board is the fault?+
    Try a known-good cable and brick on both ports. If only one side fails, that I/O board is the cause. If both sides fail with proven good cables, the logic board may also be involved.
    Can I install it myself?+
    Yes if you have the right tools. You need a P5 pentalobe driver, a Torx T5 driver, plastic spudgers and ESD safety. Pro install is recommended.
