Symptoms That Mean You Need a New SIM Tray
If your Galaxy A17 shows any of the symptoms below, the SIM tray is the likely cause. A bent or missing tray is the single most common reason for a sudden "No SIM card" message on an otherwise working handset.
Phone shows "No SIM card" message even with a working SIM seated.
Tray dropped, fell out in a bag, or vanished after a tray pull.
Tray will not push fully home, sits proud of the frame, or feels twisted.
Phone reads SIM but ignores the microSD card seated in the same hybrid tray.
Ejector pin pushes but tray will not pop. Often a snapped retainer.
Audible rattle when shaken — gasket has worn and tray no longer locks.
Intermittent signal as the SIM contact lifts off the chassis pin pad.
Drop damage or over-flexing has snapped the plastic SIM cradle.
3-Step Triage Before You Replace
Before swapping the tray, run this quick check so you know the tray is the real fault and not the SIM, the slot pins, or the modem.
- Test the SIM in another phone. If the SIM works elsewhere, the SIM is fine — fault is in the tray or A17 slot.
- Visually inspect the tray. Pull it with the ejector pin. Look for bend, snap, missing plastic cradle, or melted contact.
- Reseat and refit. Wipe the SIM contacts, reseat in the cradle, push the tray back fully. If "No SIM" returns, the tray needs replacing.
Install Steps — DIY at Home
- Power off the Galaxy A17 completely.
- Locate the tray ejector hole on the left side of the frame.
- Insert a SIM ejector pin (or paperclip) and push gently until the tray pops.
- Pull the old tray out and lift the SIM and microSD across to the new tray.
- Slide the new tray back in (notched corner facing up) until it sits flush.
- Power on. Wait for the network bars to register, then send a test SMS.
Not confident? Drop the handset to our Forest Lake bench. Trained tech fits the tray, verifies SIM detection, runs a network test and confirms microSD mount before you walk out.
Built for Every A17 SIM Tray Buyer in Australia
Galaxy A17 Owners With Lost or Broken Tray
Tray fell out, snapped on the ejector pull, or vanished into the bottom of a bag. One inexpensive tray puts the handset back online in under five minutes.
Independent Phone Repair Shops
A17 just landed in Australian retail — tray walk-ins are about to spike. Stock a stack on the bench so the customer leaves the shop the same visit, not next week.
Refurbishers and Trade-In Resellers
Trade-in stock often arrives with a missing or chewed tray. A cheap refit lifts the handset from B-grade to A-grade resale on eBay AU and Facebook Marketplace.
Frequent International Travellers
Constant SIM swaps wear out the tray retainer first. A spare tray in the carry-on means a roaming SIM still drops home into a tight, reliable holder.
Dual-SIM Business Users
Personal and work numbers in the same handset. Lose the dual tray and the second number drops — both SIMs back in service the day this part arrives.
Telstra, Optus and Vodafone Carrier Stores
Counter-staff replacing trays during in-store SIM swap and porting. AU-stocked spares mean no waiting on overseas freight when a customer is mid-port.
Insurance and Warranty Assessors
Sourcing parts for accidental-damage and contents-insurance claims. Needs a documented OEM-spec tray with a tax invoice from a registered AU supplier.
Bulk Fleet and Corporate IT
A17 is being rostered onto BYOD and corporate fleet plans. Stock five to ten trays for the IT cupboard and avoid help-desk tickets stalling for weeks.
Microsoldering and Repair Schools
Training units rotated through tray swaps, port refits and chassis teardowns. Cheap consumable that gets the trainee a confident first SIM-tray win.
Online Sellers and eBay Flippers
Listing pre-owned A17 handsets — buyers will not bid without a tray. Stocking trays at AU prices beats overseas freight delays during the listing window.

Important Pro Install Note
If your phone still shows "No SIM card" after fitting a known-good tray with a known-good SIM, the fault is likely in the SIM reader contacts on the A17 motherboard — not the tray. Do not force the tray, do not over-pull the ejector, and do not bend pins inside the slot. Bring the handset to a qualified repair bench for SIM-reader inspection.
