Is 2mm the narrowest VHB tape available?+
Yes. In the 3M VHB range, 2mm is the narrowest standard width. It is the only VHB tape that fits ultra-narrow channels in bezel-less phones, camera module housings, and modern smartwatch frames. Wider VHB tapes (5mm, 10mm, 15mm) cannot fit these channels without trimming or overhang.
Why use VHB 2mm instead of 2mm transfer tape for camera modules?+
Camera modules produce vibration from optical image stabilisation (OIS) motors. Transfer tape cannot absorb this vibration — it will eventually transmit the movement to the housing. VHB foam at 2mm absorbs the vibration inside the foam core. This keeps the camera stable and prevents early tape failure under the constant micro-movement of OIS systems.
What is the temperature range of VHB 2mm?+
Rated from -40°C to +149°C. Camera modules, processors, and sensors inside phones often reach 40–60°C during heavy use. This tape holds comfortably at device operating temperatures. The -40°C lower limit makes it suitable for outdoor IoT sensors deployed in cold climates.
Is VHB 2mm suitable for Apple Watch and smartwatch repair?+
Yes. Apple Watch, Samsung Galaxy Watch, Garmin, and Fitbit models all use narrow bezel tape for screen bonding. The 2mm VHB fits most wearable display frames and provides a waterproof, permanent bond. Wearable devices are exposed to sweat and rain — the waterproof VHB foam handles this environment better than standard tape.
Can VHB 2mm be used on earphones and IEM housings?+
Yes. In-ear monitors and earphones use narrow foam tape to bond driver units and housing halves. The foam absorbs vibration from the drivers and provides a mild acoustic seal. At 2mm, the tape fits the internal channels of most earphone and IEM housings without overhang.
What is the difference between VHB and transfer tape at 2mm?+
VHB tape has a solid acrylic foam core. It absorbs vibration, fills micro-gaps, and bonds with much higher strength than transfer tape. Transfer tape is ultra-thin — pure adhesive with no carrier. Choose VHB 2mm for camera modules, wearables, and anything facing vibration or temperature change. Choose 2mm transfer tape for flat precision bonding where zero-thickness profile matters more than vibration resistance.
Is VHB tape removable after bonding?+
VHB is a permanent bond and is not designed for removal. At 2mm width, removal requires a very fine tool or dental floss to cut through the foam, then IPA to clean residue. Work slowly — forcing removal can damage the bonded components. Plan placement before pressing, especially on tiny phone and wearable components.
How many camera module repairs does a 25m roll cover?+
Each camera module perimeter uses roughly 5–8cm of 2mm VHB tape. A 25m roll covers 300–500 camera module replacements. For wearable device bezel bonding, each watch uses 8–12cm — covering 200–300 smartwatch repairs per roll.

What surfaces does VHB 2mm bond well to?+
VHB 2mm bonds well to metal, glass, hard plastic, ABS, aluminium, and painted surfaces. These are the materials used in phones, tablets, wearables, and electronics enclosures. It does not bond well to silicone, PE, or PP without surface primer. Always clean both surfaces with IPA before applying.
