Will this fit my PS5? How do I check the model number?+
Flip the console over and read the small white sticker on the base. Look for the line that starts with "Model:" or "CFI-". If your console begins with CFI-1 (such as CFI-1015A, CFI-1115B, CFI-1216A, CFI-1102A) this fan is a direct fit. If it begins with CFI-2 (PS5 Slim) or CFI-7 (PS5 Pro), do NOT order — the cooling assembly is physically different and this fan will not fit.
Is the 23-blade fan really quieter than the 17-blade NIDEC?+
Yes. More blades move the same amount of air at lower RPM. Lower RPM means less bearing whine, less air-shear noise and less vibration through the chassis. Does this fan also fix "PS5 too hot" overheating shutdowns?+
Often yes — especially when the original fan is dust-clogged, bearing-worn or running on a slow current. The 23-blade exhaust pulls more air across the heatsink, which lowers APU and PSU temperatures during gameplay. For best results, pair the new fan with a heatsink dust-clean and a fresh thermal-paste application. If the console still overheats after a clean fan swap and repaste, the next step is to check the liquid metal layer on the APU.
Will it fit the PS5 Slim or PS5 Pro?+
No. The PS5 Slim (CFI-2015A/B, CFI-2016A/B) uses a smaller, redesigned cooling assembly with a different fan housing and connector layout. The PS5 Pro (CFI-7000 / CFI-7016) uses a different fan again. This 23-blade Delta / NMB unit only fits original PS5 consoles in the CFI-1xxx series. Ordering for a Slim or Pro by mistake means a return at your cost — check the model sticker first.
Can I install this fan myself or should a technician do it?+
PS5 fan replacement is a full teardown — covers off, motherboard shields off, heatsink off, fan out, new fan in, repaste, reassemble. It needs a T8 Torx driver, plastic pry tools, an ESD strap and fresh thermal paste. A confident DIYer with electronics-repair experience can do it in 60-90 minutes. If you have never opened a console, a console-repair tech (including our Forest Lake bench) is the safer choice — an incorrect install can damage the motherboard.
Do I need to update PS5 firmware after installing the fan?+
No. The PS5 fan controller treats both the 17-blade NIDEC and the 23-blade Delta / NMB as the same 12V DC, 3-pin component. There is no firmware change, no system-software flag, no pairing routine. Power on, the fan spools up, the system reads RPM through the same header, and that is it. The only "tuning" is the natural drop in RPM and noise from having more blades to do the same airflow.
Does swapping the fan void my Sony PlayStation warranty?+
Yes — opening a sealed PS5 console removes the factory tamper sticker and ends the original Sony warranty. If your console is still inside its first 12 months and still under Sony cover, do not open it — contact Sony PlayStation support first. This fan is intended for out-of-warranty consoles, third-party repair shops, refurbishers and DIY upgrades on consoles where the factory warranty has already expired.
Does it fit the PS5 Disc Edition AND the Digital Edition?+
Yes — both. The original PS5 Disc Edition and PS5 Digital Edition share the same internal cooling assembly across every CFI-1xxx revision. The fan housing, mount bracket, 3-pin connector and exhaust path are identical. The only physical difference between Disc and Digital is the optical drive bay — the cooling layout does not change. This 23-blade Delta / NMB drops straight into either model.
What is covered by the 12-month replacement and how do I claim?+
Cover runs for 12 months from purchase against manufacturing fault — bearing failure, RPM drop, motor stall under normal use. To claim, post or drop the fan back to Shop 3A, 152 Woogaroo St, Forest Lake QLD 4078 with proof of purchase. Cover excludes physical damage, blade strikes, liquid damage, modification, install in the wrong console family (Slim / Pro / PS4) and consequential damage to the host console.
